Barbie has new dolls their about to roll out in June.
These new Barbie Fashionistas will feature wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, braided hair textures, different skin shades and eye colors, and more. The new dolls are apart of Mattel’s 2019 Barbie line that aims to offer kids more diverse representation of beauty. LOVE IT!
The Barbie’s will also have more realistic body types, meaning smaller bust, less defined waist and more defined arms.
“As a brand, we can elevate the conversation around physical disabilities by including them into our fashion doll line to further showcase a multi-dimensional view of beauty and fashion,” Mattel said in a statement.
In the past, Mattel collabed with a 13-year-old named Jordan Reeves to create a doll with a prosthetic limb that could be removed for a “more realistic” play experience. The wheelchairs, which has been one of the most requested accessories from Barbie fans, were created through a collaboration with UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital and wheelchair experts. There will even be a Barbie DreamHouse-compatible ramp with the wheelchair.
With more than 1 billion people living in the world with a disability, these new dolls have become a huge hit with disability rights activists.
