This week, a video was released showing two black men being arrested from a Starbucks in Philly for not ordering anything while waiting for a friend to arrive. Store managers called the police saying the men were trespassing. In the video, other customer can be seen defending the young men being arrested, asking exactly why the arrest was happening when there were others hanging out in the cafe who also had not ordered anything.
The incident was labeled racially bias and protest started almost immediately. In response the company released an officially apology, and announced on Tuesday that in May all 8,000 of the US stores will close for one afternoon while employees take a racially-bias training class.
If you ask me, more than one afternoon is needed to battle bias and racism.
