On Tuesday afternoon, a shoplifting suspect was shot and killed by a Greenville police officer at the Academy Sports.

An off-duty officer was shopping at the store, when he was told of a man who was shoplifting. The officer confronted the man outside the store and showed him his credentials. Police say the man then tried to attack the officer with a knife.

The officer drew his gun, shot and killed the man. An investigation into the shooting has been requested by Greenville PD Chief Mark Holtzman.
