T.I. would like to remind fans of trap music to put a little respect on his name. After all, as he suggests, if it weren’t for his contributions to the genre, the landscape of popular music today would look significantly different.

During a recent radio interview, T.I. talk about how he played an integral role in starting trap music.

T.I. said a lot people don’t know that he started trap music. His second album released in 2003 was called Trap Muzik.

“Because the first album I did […] people who heard it, they didn’t know where I was from,” he elaborates. “‘Is he from Atlanta? He raps too good. Is he from New York? Where is he from?’ So, Trap Muzik was like establishing a sound, like this is who I am.”
